Europe is especially imploding, as far as 'native' populations. "European Americans" are rapidly declining, while Latinos, through both illegal immigration and birthrates, take up much of the slack.

The Western will to live has died. We have a lot of sex, but so much of it is 'fruitless'. We want to satisfy our animal lusts, but don't want to be bothered with offspring. So, through not marrying, divorce, abortion, and with conception prevention, we "eat" our children. We, as a society, don't like children. They are a burden and a bother, and they mar and scar the earth with their ever expanding 'carbon footprints'!

"God is dead", and so we 'eat, drink and are merry' for 'tomorrow we die'. If there is no God, there is no judgement. And if there is no judgement, how can we be brought to account for our 'sins'? Why, one can argue (and one often does) that there is no hell ("Imagine") - Conveniently, John Lennon has thereby apparently avoided it. And, since there is no hell, certainly his murderer can't go there!

Atheism and agnosticism are convenient religions that worship at the altar of human superiority (and we try to put down those who dare suggest that their god is equal, let alone superior, to mine - "ME!")

We mock and scoff at the fools who believe that there is a superior intelligence to ours. After all, that Darwin fellow made a monkey out of God, didn't he? 'He' is our 'creator', is he not?

So, supposedly, all that Jesus stuff was merely a bewitching (while once compelling) 'fairy tale'. And so we repeat to ourselves, over and over and over again, my friend.

So, since there is no God, we must fully take care of ourselves.

Do I believe in 'global warming'? Yes, most certainly I do! You should too!

FOR, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

—Malachi 4:1

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

—Luke 12:49

While I am completely in accord with the idea that the earth does not necessarily belong to us, that we are stewards–I am not one who thinks that we are without a creator or a purpose.

To a great extent, I find that environmentalism views man's existence as a scar and a mar upon the face of the earth. While indeed, many horrific things have been done to "the environment", I believe that this philosophy that A) without speaking it, assumes there is no superior intelligence (i.e., "god") who created this whole thing, and, implicit to that B) that there is no plan, or knowledge of what man would or will do, are in my humble (but often extremely accurate opinion) unwarranted.

Since 'we' are 'scientists', let's do an experiment. Okay, so let's rather be 'historians'. Show me any society that has survived (let alone thrived) without adequate self-reproduction.

Malthus is dead. And so should Malthusian concepts.

'Carbon neutrality', environmental responsibility, etc, etc, etc. This is the stuff that makes uni-bombers, and may lead to tyrants or mobs enforcing their dogma of negative human population numbers through mass homocide.

The world is imploding economically, largely, I believe, because population-wise, many large portions of Western civilization (including Westernized Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong), are imploding culturally, inviting, in some cases, the "enemies" of Western civilization in (i.e., Arabs and Muslims) to help grow them, until they can conquer their despised hosts.

These are important questions and ideas. But at the end of the day what concerns me most is that at the micro level our conceptions of ownership (I'm thinking stock markets, takeovers, etc.) and "corporate" success. The size/growth mentality reigns supreme in these environments. It's the "Get big or get eaten." story all over.

And since large amounts of capital are vital in the kind of economy we have today (e.g., concentration bordering on monopoly, the strict intellectual property systems) we will need to rethink the micro systemics as well. But, returning to Obama, there's always hope :)
